Introducing - Holistic Health at Equilibrium Physiotherapy
New in 2025, we now have a Holistic Health clinic where we can offer the Complementary and Holistic Therapy of Aromatherapy massage. This service is currently available on Tuesdays.
Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to support your health and wellbeing. Essential oils are a natural way to use the pure properties of plants and can be blended with massage oil or diffused into the treatment room, and are selected specifically to suit your needs.
Vicki Downey is a qualified Aromatherapist and insured by the Federation of Holistic Therapists to provide these treatments (search for 'Victoria Downey' on the therapist register here: Find a Therapist | Federation of Holistic Therapists Directory Service), and will be working as a Complementary Therapist during these appointments. If you require physiotherapy please see our other treatment tabs for the range of physiotherapy available.
What to expect
Following a health and wellbeing consultation, Vicki will create a bespoke blend of essential oils to be used during massage, and/or diffused into the room. Oils have different therapeutic properties, such as calming, or rejuvenating, and are absorbed into the body through the skin and whilst breathing in.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to the choice of oil, and also to the type of treatment focus needed - for example, a soothing massage technique, or deeper tissue massage, and also to decide which body areas are most needing treatment.
Fresh towels are used to ensure your modesty during therapy. Your appointment will last for approximately 50 - 60 minutes, which includes consultation time.
Benefits include: Relief from stress, anxiety and tension. Feelings of deep relaxation. Improved mood and sleep, and a general sense of health and wellbeing. Also, muscular benefits of massage.
Can anyone have Aromatherapy massage?
This therapy is suitable for most adults, but there are certain conditions where you should avoid aromatherapy. We always begin with a consultation to make sure that aromatherapy is right for you, and if you have any health problems that you are taking medication for we may need your doctor's permission before treatment can commence. You may like to arrange for this before your first appointment.
If you have sensitive skin, or a history of adverse reaction to skin products, we will need to complete a 'patch test' on your first visit before using essential oils in massage. We may diffuse the oils into the room and do massage with a plain massage oil on the first visit, and place a small patch of blended essential oil onto your wrist or forearm for you to monitor over 48 hours.
